What is Periodontics?
Periodontics is a specialty within dentistry that focuses on the care of the gums and the bones that support the teeth. One of the main functions of periodontics is to prevent and treat periodontal disease, also known as gum disease.
These two diseases mentioned affect the tissue that supports our teeth, that is, the gums, and are mainly caused by bacteria, when it is an initial stage it will be called gingivitis and in a more advanced stage it will be periodontitis.
- Gingivitis: at this point an infection occurs that reddens the gum and causes it to bleed. In this stage, it is still reversible if it is detected and treated appropriately by the dentist and the patient.
- Periodontitis: it occurs when gingivitis was not treated promptly and progresses. This is how the infection goes further and penetrates below the gum forming periodontal pockets, attacking the root and the bone that holds the tooth, even causing its loss. Unfortunately, periodontitis is irreversible and, in addition, it can negatively affect certain aspects of our general health, including heart or brain problems.

What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal Disease is basically presented by the accumulation of bacteria between the gum and teeth, this due to the lack of adequate brushing, the non-use of dental floss and the absence of visits to the dentist for professional hygiene.
Basically what happens is that if the food remains are not removed, they turn into bacterial plaque, which over time, turns into tartar and can even get under the gums, from where it can only check out a dentist.
Generally, periodontal diseases hurt, but they have easy-to-detect symptoms such as red, swollen or bleeding gums, as well as bad breath or some mobility in the teeth if the disease is very advanced. The final diagnosis must be made by the dentist or periodontist, but in the presence of any of these symptoms, it is best to go to Sanadent to make an assessment of the most appropriate periodontal treatment.
